Description
1945 FARTHING GREAT BRITAIN - 1 ROLL OF 50 - ALL RED - FREE SHIPPING.Up for sale is a complete roll of 50 1945 farthings from Great Britain all in gem red condition. This is a really unusual find. After 75 years most farthings have toned to a brown color. Somehow these found their way from a paper tube to an inert plastic tube, and now here they are ready for you to buy.
This GB farthing type was issued from 1937 to 1945 in bronze. On the date side is a wren, on the other side is a likeness of George VI. The World Coin Catalog number is KM 843. Until decimalization in 1970 there were four farthings to one GB penny.
So what is a 1945 GB farthing worth? If you go to the NGC website (ngccoin dot com) and enter the words "farthing km 843" in the search box, it says that it's worth US.00 in Grade 60 and US in Grade 65. Grade 60 is a brown coin with lots of contact marks. The ones you see in the photos of this lot are all red with very few contact marks.
If you look elsewhere on eBay there is no shortage of brown farthings from 1937 to 1945. But red ones sell between and 0 in high-grade red condition. Just like with US cents there is a rarity premium because of their red color.
So I am offering the roll of 50. Whether you intend to hold these coins or to have some certified and then sell them at a higher price is up to you.
The coins you see are the coins you get. Genuineness is guaranteed.
